Helping You Say Goodbye to Your Third Molars

Teenagers and young adults between the ages of 16 and 25 often experience a common rite of passage known as wisdom tooth extractions. This common procedure requires that the third set of molars (wisdom teeth) toward the back of the mouth be removed. Once necessary for early civilizations to ensure optimal nutrition, these teeth no longer serve a purpose and instead, oftentimes pose a threat to a patient’s oral health. Call our dental office to find out if your child is a good candidate for wisdom tooth extractions in Arlington.

The Wisdom Tooth Extraction Process

How we remove wisdom teeth is largely determined by whether they are impacted or have already partially erupted. If there is enough of the tooth that is protruding up through the gums, our team will use specialized dental instruments to grasp it and gently move it back and forth. This will cause the tooth to detach from the ligaments below.

If the wisdom teeth are impacted, a surgical approach must be taken that requires opening the gum tissue and extracting the underlying teeth in pieces. This allows for easier removal and prevents damaging the existing bone.
